Don't believe the hype this place is really not so great. I have been here a couple times and unlike others I do not appreciate the lack of options. Your only option is vanilla or the one flavor of the day. The fruit flavored ice cream we had the last time we were there tasted fake, bleh

Ice cream is soft and flavors are deliciously soft too, not overpowering. If you like soft serve you'll probably like any flavor they have. Pick a size, the flavor has been decided for you. Always a twist, never plain vanilla. Same machine operating for the past 65 years. Same gorgeous mountain view for the past ten thousand years. Don't miss it if you like nostalgia and yearn for the good old days when things were simple. Also, don't miss it if you love ice cream.

Best soft-serve on the planet! And I challenge you to find a more breathtakingly beautiful setting for an Ice Cream stand anywhere on earth. When we're visiting the area, this is a daily (sometimes twice a day) destination! People who are looking for variety may be disappointed, as there's only one flavor per day, always twisted with vanilla--but that's part of the charm of this must-see location. Can't wait to come back!

Donnelly's has some of the best software serve ice cream I have experienced. They only offer one flavor per day, so sometimes you have to wait for a personal favorite (mine's lemon), bit it removes almost all delay, as all you need to choose is a size. If you visit the Adirondacks, it is worth the stop.

My favorite ice cream in the whole world. Soft serve [one flavor per day] made on premises. I grew up a mile away and now live on Cape Cod. Donnelly's is one of my MUST visits when I go back home... especially on Fri for strawberry/vanilla swirl.

Great ice cream. They only serve one flavor a day, and it changes every day. The flavor of the day is almost always twisted with vanilla. Always soft serve. The building is quite small, with no place to sit or stand inside. There's a grassy area you can sit in next to the building (just sitting on the ground, no tables) or stand in the parking lot area. Cash only.

This place has the best ice cream I've ever had. Every week, different flavors, always twisted with vanilla. 1 week: Pistachio twisted with vanilla. Next week: Chocolate twisted with vanilla. Then Raspberry twisted with vanilla. After that, Blue Berry twisted with vanilla. Sooo many flavors. Check in every week for a new flavor. It could take months for a flavor to come up again.

We loved this soft serve. It was creamy and delicious. The fact that they only served one flavor was actually super exciting for our family. The first stop we had peanut butter swirl and the next time it was blueberry. My older son was making predictions about the flavor they would have and said, "I think it will be something with berries this time". We were all so excited to have blueberries and cream!The line moves fast and the signs are clear. Note: It is cash only! I did see some folks show up and leave to get cash. I hope you'll read this before you go to grab some before you get there.

This place is the absolute best. It is an absolute throwback. In an era where most places seem to abandon their roots, Donnellys has doubled down. They do one thing and it is executed to the highest level! If you found yourself within a 50 mile radius, it is a MUST!

The ice cream is delicious!! My family has been getting Ice Cream here for at least 4-5 generations. My grandmother tells stories about going here as a little girl. We always stop when we visit from Minnesota!!

I've been to many of the top rated ice cream parlors in the country and none of them come close to this. Unrivaled.

They serve one flavor a day. And they have packed ice cream from previous days. when I was there the flavor was almond creme and it was amazing. If you're in the area stop and enjoy it's worth the time.

It's all about the machine! They use mix like everyone. The ice cream is very good. But it's NOT homemade!

Worth the wait in line for homemade ice cream (not custard! No eggs!) they have 1 flavor a day;usually twisted with Vanilla. That’s it! Because of the high butter fat content, they can serve it soft. But, be warned!! There are no artificial stabilizers in this ice cream, (like we are used to thanks to so many additives in our food today), so hold your cone straight or get it in a dish!If you want your choice of 100 flavors of sub-par ice cream, go someplace else. If you want the real deal, come here.

The soft icecream here was creamy and delicious. We drove all the way from Long Island to get it! Plus we were at Lake Placid.

Best ice cream ever. I have never had a flavor I did not like. A friend told me to check this place out a few years ago and have been hooked ever since. If your ever near Saranac Lake, go! They make one flavor a day which they post on their fb page. On top of amazing ice cream the view while eating it is wonderful. So go and see why they have been a landmark since 1953 and have a treat from the same machine they opened with way back when!
